In this article, you will learn about how the matter overview screen is configured.
Overview
When you open up a matter, one of the tabs will be the 'Overview' which displays summary information about the matter in a set of configurable panels. As an administrator, you can create custom sets of panels for the various Matter Types and System Roles, which means that a paralegal looking at litigation matter might have a different overview layout to a partner looking at a real-estate matter. Customized overview screens allow users to see the most important information about a matter at a glance. And as an administrator, this gives you an opportunity to add a lot of value to the user experience.
Default Layout
If you have not created a custom overview page for a particular Matter Type and System Role then the user will be presented with a default set of panels which will probably look something like the following:
If no custom layout has been created then users can modify this screen by dragging panels to different locations and selecting which panels they would like to see by clicking the 'Configure Panels' button at the bottom of the screen:
As an Administrator, you can limit which panels are available to which System Role by clicking on "Settings". Please see Matter Overview Panels for more information
Note that this does not affect the layout of the panels.
Custom Layout
Realistically, users seldom take the time to customize the overview screen and consequently do not get all the information they need on this page. Administrators can add a lot of value to the user experience by setting up custom layouts for each Matter Type and each System Role.
Please note that this change can only be enacted by Administrators. Please see System Roles Permissions for more information.
Admin > Permissions > System Roles
Select the checkbox next to the system role you'd like to configure layouts for, then click 'Matter Overview Panels'.
You will then be presented with a list of available panels and options to assign these to particular rows and columns on the overview page. Any panel that is not assigned to a row and column will not be displayed on the overview page.
Once you have made all your selections be sure to click on 'Save' at the bottom of the page. You can then quickly create overview screens for other 'Matter Types' or 'System Roles' by changing the choices at the top of the screen.
Once a custom layout has been defined users will no longer be able to modify the overview screen for these particular 'Matter Types'.
Once your new layout is complete the users will see the new layout next time they open a matter of this type.
