In this article, you will learn about 'Matter Steps': a tool that indicates how far within the workflow you have progressed for each individual matter.
Overview
The steps within a matter are depicted through the 'Workflow Ribbon', which sits above the 'Matter Navigation Bar', as per the screenshot below. The 'Workflow Ribbon' displays the step that the matter is currently on, what steps it has been through and the likely future steps. Each type is uniquely colored to help you distinguish between them more easily.
Previously completed Steps
The light green steps are ones that you have already passed through, and they are ordered chronologically, as shown below.
Current Step
The step you are currently on within the workflow is marked by a bright green, as shown below.
The next available Step
The next step that you can progress to within the workflow is colored yellow, as shown below. you can click on these steps on the 'Workflow Ribbon' itself to move to them.
Your matters can be configured so that, at times, you have a choice between what your next steps are. This will be represented within the workflow ribbon by a small dropdown box with a number to indicate how many alternative steps there are, as shown below.
Future Steps
Grey steps are ones that are likely to be used in the future. That does not mean, however, that you are not locked into these steps; future steps simply represent the most likely progression, based on how you have constructed the workflow.
