Can I retain my old matter numbering scheme?
Actionstep uses a unique system-generated numeric ID to identify actions (matters). This ID is used to link all other information to the matter (contacts, documents, email, etc).
If you are moving from a manual system or an older computer-based system then you may have been using a more complex numbering system such as "2020-SMI/2" (to indicate the second matter for client Smith in 2020). This type of numbering scheme is not necessary in a new generation system like Actionstep since all the meta data (created date, client details, matter type, etc) are linked to the matter and can be combined as needed to provide a much more powerful and flexible reporting and search capability.
With that said however, you will probably still want to import your old matter numbers so that you can cross-reference them to the existing paper files or old system records. For this you can use a special field called "File Reference". For any new matters created in Actionstep the file reference will no longer be needed and you can use the auto-generated numeric matter ID from that point forward.
Can I start my matter numbering at a certain value?
Yes you can specify any numeric start number for your matters.
How do I import a Date, Time and Memo data field?
When importing custom data, either participant or action data you might want to populate a date and time or a date, time and memo field. When doing this enter in the date a space and the time in the column on your csv file. If you want to add a memo then it should be followed immediately with a vertical slash "|" and the memo. For example:
To enter a time and date use the format:
2016-04-16 14:22:22
To enter a time, date and memo format:
2016-04-16 14:22:22|example memo
