Introduction
Zapier has been updated for all users to give some additional flexibility when searching and updating matters and contacts. Mainly it allows the user of Import External Reference.
What is Import External Reference?
Import External Reference is a free-format string field that can be used to store a value against a matter (this doesn't change or effect any business logic in Actionstep and is not displayed in the user interface).
By exposing this field in our create/update and search in Zapier you have a unique value attributed to your contacts and matters that is not generated from Actionstep. So if you are creating contacts/matters from other applications that have their own unique references you can store this in the Import External Reference and if they need updating from the other program then you can find them and update them based on the same reference.
Create Matter
When creating a matter you can now insert an Import External Reference.
Update Matter
You can update the Import External Reference on a matter through Zapier
Create Company Contact
You can create the Import External Reference on a Company Contact

Search for a Contact
Search for a Contact (please note there is another search called Find contact which is old but has been left as some zaps already are using this search)
We have extended the search properties so that you can search for First Name, Last Name and Import External Reference.
*please note there is another search called Find contact which is legacy and will allow you to search for contact ID's - so make sure to use Search for a contact to use the additional functionality.
